Maple Grove is surging at the right time, running off a 5-0-1 record in its last six games, including a tie with powerful Duluth East and a big 4-2 victory over No. 7 Elk River. The Crimson needed overtime to beat defending Section 5AA champion Centennial 4-3 on Dec. 19 in the first meeting. Joe Norenberg (7-12-19) scored the game-winner with just 38 seconds left in overtime, offsetting a pair of goals from Collin Hughes (7-6-13) of Centennial. Leading scorer Sam Valerius (12-20-32) added a goal and two assists for Maple Grove, while Cal McKenney (4-4-1, 3.55, .894) made 44 saves. Brady Goodman (7-1-1, 1.63, .948) has taken over in goal during the Crimson’s late-season run, however, starting eight of the last 10 games.
