Eden Prairie at Wayzata
7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 15

Lake Conference play begins this week with a ton of good matchups, which isn’t a surprise considering the power of the circuit (which also includes No. 2-2A Edina, Minnetonka and Hopkins), but we like the meeting of No. 7-2A Eden Prairie (10-5-0) at No. 6-2A Wayzata (7-6-2) as our top Lake Conference Game of the Week.

The fact that both teams are ranked in the top-10 despite mediocre records is a testament to the strength of their schedules — and the Lake Conference in general. After a fast start, Wayzata is just 1-5-1 in its last seven games, although the last four are all one-goal losses. The Trojans have balanced scoring, with a dozen players who have at least two goals, but no one has more than the nine scored by Hank Sorensen (9-3-12). Billy Duma (6-15-21) leads the team in points.

Eden Prairie is more top-heavy with junior Michael Graham (14-17-31) and sophomore Casey Mittelstadt (16-13-29) leading in points by a wide margin — and the only Eagles averaging more than one point per game.
