Breck at Blake
7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 20

Class 1A, Section 2 should be a real battle down the stretch, as it is home to four teams ranked among the top 20 in Class 1A (Breck at No. 6, Delano/Rockford at No. 11, Orono at No. 17 and Bloomington Kennedy at No. 20).

Breck (12-6-0) is the favorite to emerge from that group, thanks to a lock-down defense. The Mustangs allow just 1.50 goals per game and haven’t given up more than four in any game this year. Even in its six losses, Breck is allowing just 2.67 goals per game. Goaltender Stephen Headrick (12-6-0, 1.43, .922) has played every second of every game this winter, but doesn’t appear to be tiring. He has five shutouts among his 18 starts, buoyed by a defensive corps that includes Dalton Weigel (3-11-14), Tyler Lindstrom (2-9-11), and Justin Paulson (1-5-6).

Blake (5-10-0) isn’t among those ranked teams in Section 2, but the Bears are dangerous. Coach Jon Sturgis challenges his team with a tough schedule, although Blake has lost four of its last five. Senior Mark Lyman (12-5-17) is the leader of an otherwise young Bears team that has room to grow.
