Edina at Hopkins
3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 7

No. 2-2A Edina (18-1-2) continues to run roughshod through its schedule, going 14-0-1 since it only loss of the season, a 3-1 defeat at No. 1-2A Lakeville North on Dec. 4. The Hornets have rarely been tested in that stretch, which includes an 8-4 home victory against Hopkins (12-8-1) on Jan. 22.

Ah, but just a moment. That game also signifies the most goals the Hornets have allowed all season.

The Royals were efficient in the loss, scoring four goals on only 13 shots. Riley Martin (10-8-18) scored twice, and top scorers Josh Laven (16-16-32) and Noah Bragg (12-8-20) also added goals for Hopkins.

But Hopkins also had trouble slowing Edina’s big offense. Henry Bowlby (4-15-19) and Matt Masterman (19-10-29) each had two goals and two assists for the Hornets, who are averaging 5.57 goals per game.

Expect a bounce-back game from senior goaltender Josh Kuehmichel (11-7-1, 2.93, .915), who was expected to be one of the leading candidates for the Frank Brimsek Award, which honors the top senior goaltender in the state.
