Wayzata at Benilde-St. Margaret’s
7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 10

Class 2A, Section 6 foes Wayzata and No. 10-2A Benilde-St. Margaret’s have been heading in opposition directions since the holidays. With the playoffs a week away, this game could be the last chance for one to gain momentum — and the other to lose it for good.

The No. 10-2A Red Knights (13-8-2) have been surging since the holiday break, winning eight of their last 11 games. In three of its last four games, Benilde-St. Margaret’s has allowed a total of one goal while scoring 23. Of course, there’s also a 5-0 loss at home to Eden Prairie in that stretch.

In an 11-0 shutout of Chaska on Feb. 5, Chase Jungels (16-20-36) and Zach Risteau (20-8-28) each netted hat tricks with an assist, while Carter Roo (5-24-29), Jacob Holmers (3-14-17) and Mark Kaske (13-20-33) also had four-point games. That’s the Red Knights' offense fans have come to love in recent years.

Meanwhile, No. 8-2A Wayzata (10-11-2) has had a tough go of it since a 6-1-1 start in its first eight games. The Trojans are just 4-10-1 in their last 15 games, although their talent is reflected in the fact they remain in the top-10 Class 2A rankings in spite of that skid. Offense has been an issue, as Wayzata has scored one or fewer goals in its last four losses. Hank Sorensen (13-4-17) is the only player with double-digit goals.
