St. Cloud Cathedral at Breck
7:15 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 17

St. Cloud Cathedral enters the final week before the holiday break looking for a win after falling twice last week, albeit to opponents ranked in Class 1A's top 10.

Ninth-ranked Delano left the Municipal Athletic Complex on Tuesday with a 9-6 win while crosstown rival and No. 3-ranked St. Cloud Apollo shut down the No. 6-1A Crusaders en route to a 4-1 win.

Now, things don’t get any easier with a trip to Golden Valley to face Breck. The No. 2-1A Mustangs have been thoroughly impressive this season in compiling a 6-1 record. Their only blemish is a 2-1 loss to No. 7-2A Wayzata and have wins against five ranked teams.

After games with Delano, No. 13-2A Holy Family Catholic, No. 7-1A East Grand Forks, No. 11-1A Thief River Falls and No. 5-1A St. Paul Academy, Breck is enjoying a scoring differential of more than three goals a game (5.57-2.43). Moreover, it’s power-play percentage converts at 45.8 percent and its penalty kill unit is 94.7 percent effective, marking its special teams units as some of the state’s elite.

Senior forward Chase Ellington continues to lead the Mustangs in scoring and last week reached 20 points (9 goals, 11 assists) on the season.
