Edina at Minnetonka
7 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 23

Red-hot Minnetonka enters the week having won five straight, including an overtime victory at No. 3-2A Eden Prairie on Saturday night.

The No. 6-2A Skippers have fared well in the new year, but the schedule ahead is more difficult and the remaining four weeks ought to prove if Minnetonka will swim or sink in the company of the state’s elite and the ultra competitive Class 2A, Section 2.

Skippers senior goalie Thomas Hanson has improved his record to 10-4 while posting a .920 save percentage and a 2.25 goals-against average. Senior forward Brendan Skarda leads the team with 10 goals and 20 points through 17 games.

Edina enters the week with a 10-6-2 record after falling to No. 15-2A Wayzata 3-1 on Saturday night at Braemar Arena. Though the special teams units have been solid as usual, consistent goal production has been an issue at times for the No. 7-2A Hornets, who are averaging 3.33 goals per game.

Senior goaltender Charlie deGrood has a .905 save percentage and a 2.24 goals-against average with three shutouts. Offensively, Sam Walker (11-12-23) and Ben Copeland (10-14-24) lead Edina in scoring.

This is the first of two conference games between Edina and Minnetonka, with the second set for Feb. 11 at Braemar Arena.
