Delano at Holy Family Catholic
7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 28

Thursday night’s game between Delano and Holy Family Catholic will likely decide this year’s Wright County Conference championship, and offers both a legitimate test before going into different section tournaments.

Holy Family Catholic (14-3-0) is averaging 4.89 goal per game while allowing just 1.72. Since a 6-4 home loss to No. 13-2A Wayzata on Dec. 17, the No. 4-2A Fire have rattled off seven straight victories, including wins over No. 7-2A Lakeville North, No. 5-2A Stillwater, No. 18-2A Prior Lake and No. 6-2A Delano.

In the first meeting with the Tigers on Jan. 5, Holy Family Catholic escaped with a 4-3 victory after Delano rallied late behind goalie Erik Peterson, who stopped 38 of 42 shots in the game.

The Fire are led in scoring by senior forward and UConn commit Will Garin, whose 18 goals and 18 assists put him at 2.25 points per game.

The No. 6-1A Tigers (14-5-0), who have maintained their ranking for many weeks, have had plenty of offensive pop this season.

Delano averages 5.26 goals per game thanks to the play of junior captain Ben Meyers, who has 26 goals and 20 assists through 19 games and ranks ninth in the state for goals.
