Edina at Wayzata
7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 4

Thursday's game is the third meeting between Edina and Wayzata this winter and heavy with consequences as the outcome is sure to shape the pecking order in both the Lake Conference and Class 2A, Section 6.

Both teams upset Eden Prairie last week, and in doing so, further leveled the race for the Lake crown. The No. 12-2A Trojans have beaten the No. 11-2A Hornets twice by two goals.

Edina (13-7-2) needs the victory over Wayzata to avoid being swept by the Trojans in Lake Conference play - and for the season - unless the schools meet for a fourth time during the Section 6 tournament.

The Hornets struggle at times to score enough goals to pull them through, and as inconsistent as Edina has been, the team has shown flashes of an ability to skate with anyone.

The same goes for Wayzata (14-6-1), however, as the Trojans are on a five-game wining streak that began with a 3-1 victory over the Hornets on Jan. 16, and they would like to see that streak continue.

Defense has been the key for Wayzata's latest run. The Trojans allowed an average of just one goal per game in wins over Edina, Minnetonka, Grand Rapids, Hopkins and Eden Prairie.

Sophomore Colin Schmidt leads Wayzata with 10 goals.
