Totino-Grace at Mahtomedi
7 p.m., Saturday, Feb, 6

Totino-Grace hosts Mahtomedi on Saturday, pitting two top-flight teams from Class 1A, Section 4 in a potential playoff preview.

Mahtomedi enters the week with a 13-6-1 record after a 4-0 loss at No. 5-2A Stillwater on Thursday and tying No. 9-2A Hill-Murray 1-1 on Saturday.

Coming off of a tough week, the No. 5-1A Zephyrs could find the next three games offer little respite as No. 15-2A St. Thomas Academy, No. 19-1A Totino-Grace and No. 2-1A Breck wait on the horizon.

Mahtomedi senior goaltender Will Swanson (11-6-1, 2.23, .922) anchors a well-balanced team that is consistent enough to outscore its opposition by more than a goal and a half per game (4.00 for, 2.45 against).

Totino-Grace (7-11-2) has been on a bit of a January skid since upsetting No. 17-1A Luverne 7-6 in thrilling fashion before a packed house at the Brooklyn Park Community Center on New Year’s Eve. The Eagles have won just twice in 10 games since, and the talented squad eagerly looks to turn things around in February.

A win over section rival Mahtomedi could do a lot of good for Totino-Grace, which looks to push the Zephyrs at the top of Class 1A, Section 4, along with St. Paul Academy and Minnehaha Academy.

The Eagles are led in scoring by senior forward Ryan Johnson, who has 19 goals and 13 assists.
