Thief River Falls at East Grand Forks
7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 9

Thief River Falls and East Grand Forks meet Tuesday night at the East Grand Forks Civic Center with plenty on the line. The game is not only important in the Mariucci Conference title race but also for the Class 1A, Section 8 seeding process.

The No. 7-1A Prowlers (18-5-0, 7-2-0) have been productive and efficient, for the most part, in all areas of their game.

Thief River Falls is led in scoring by Ethan Johnson (35 goals, 17 assists), while Michael Johnson (13-30-43) and Lucas Magnusson (18-22-40) contribute on offense.

Goaltender Kade Nelson has played all but 17 minutes of the season in net, and the senior holds a 2.07 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage, along with five shutouts and an 18-5 record.

If the Green Wave (13-9-2, 5-3-2) are going to repeat as Class 1A state champions, they’ll have to do it without the luxury of a top seed. East Grand Forks has been inconsistent for parts of the season and struggles at times to score enough goals to get victories.

Junior forward Tanner Tweten continues to lead the Green Wave in scoring, with 15 goals and 33 points.

Thief River Falls skated to a 5-0 home victory over East Grand Forks in first meeting on Jan. 19.
