Academy of Holy Angels vs. Maranatha Christian Academy

Maranatha Christian, which ended last season with a loss in the Class 1A championship game, begins the first full week of the new year with defending Class 3A state champion Holy Angels.

The Mustangs graduated leading scorer Alaina Jarnot, who averaged 22.1 points per game, but return Jaclyn Jarnot (15.5 ppg), Elise Moore (10.3 ppg) and Sami Payne (11.8 ppg), who are intent on leading the team back to the state tournament.

The Stars won last year’s regular-season matchup 84-68 after building a 13-point halftime lead. Megan Thompson, Megan Meyer and Destinee Oberg scored in double figures in victory and are leading No. 3-3A Holy Angels (3-0) this season.

Thompson scored a team-high 17 points to help the Stars rally for a 75-73 win over No. 5-2A Minnehaha Academy on Dec. 1.
