New London-Spicer vs. Montevideo
6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 6

It seems as if New London-Spicer can block off a few dates every March to make a trip to Minneapolis for the state tournament, and the No. 7-2A Wildcats have their sights on visiting the Twin Cities this year.

New London-Spicer has made 16 trips to the state tournament since 1985, but the Wildcats went home last year without a title after losing to Plainview-Elgin-Millville 74-42 in championship.

It's a defeat that's likely fueling New London-Spicer heading into this season and this matchup with Montevideo.

The Wildcats defeated the Thunder Hawks 54-36 in the Class 2A, Section 3 semifinals a year ago, and Montevideo would like to reverse that outcome, beginning with Tuesday's regular-season showdown.

Montevideo (1-0) relies on guard Abby Olson, who averaged team-highs in points (16.5), rebounds (7.5), assists (3.0) and steals (3.0) last season.

New London-Spicer (2-0) counters with guard Shea Oman, who scored 19 points in the second half to lift the Wildcats over Eden Valley-Watkins 47-42 on Dec. 1.
