Moorhead at Bemidji
6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 14

Moorhead and Bemidji have been playing well all year, and their bout Tuesday night will shape the Class 2A, Section 8 seedings.

The Spuds are considered the favorite to earn the top seed, but the Lumberjacks are coming on and could also end up as a high seed after impressing with recent wins over section rivals Roseau (4-0) and St. Michael-Albertville (2-0), as well as one over Grand Rapids (5-2) -- the No. 10 team in the Class 2A coaches' poll.

Bemidji (13-9-1, 5-3-1) saw a four-game winning streak end Saturday night with a dramatic 3-2 overtime loss to No. 1-1A Hermantown. Despite the result, the No. 20-ranked Lumberjacks appear to be playing their best hockey since the calendar flipped to February.

Alex Pollock (11-18-29) leads the Bemidji in points, while Brady Tatro (13-11-24) and Hunter Olson (10-6-16) give the Lumberjacks three skaters registering double-digits goals.

The No. 13-2A Spuds have won four straight and have not lost since falling 1-0 to Prior Lake at the Sports Authority Holiday Classic tournament on Dec. 29.

Following its game with Bemidji, Moorhead (17-3-3, 5-1-0) closes the regular season at home against No. 9-2A Hill-Murray -- an excellent chance for the Spuds to face top-tier talent before the section playoffs begin.

Moorhead recorded a 4-1 home victory over Bemidji on Dec. 1 behind two goals from captain Cole O’Connell (20-21-41), who teams with fellow junior Carter Randklev (25-19-44) to do the heavy lifting for the Spuds’ offense.
