Woodbury at East Ridge
7:15 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 21

Basketball has been booming in Woodbury, with the Royals and Raptors climbing the Class 4A rankings and the Suburban East standings. Tuesday's matchup will be vital to helping decide which school takes the league title and ultimately a high seed in Class 4A, Section 4.

East Ridge lost the first meeting with Woodbury 80-74 in overtime on Jan. 17. But the No. 7-4A Raptors (17-5, 11-2) have been rolling lately, winning six straight games against top-tier competition, including No. 14-4A Cretin-Derham Hall (80-43 on Jan. 31) and No. 5-4A Wayzata (75-69 on Feb. 7). Courtney Brown Jr. leads East Ridge at 19.2 points per game.

Junior Michael Jones (25.5 ppg) is the state’s ninth-leading scorer and paced Woodbury through a seven-game winning streak that was snapped with a loss to No. 6-4A Hopkins on Saturday. The No. 12-4A Royals (17-4, 12-1) face the Raptors and Cretin-Derham Hall this week, and victories against both could help them claim their second consecutive league title.
