Hermantown vs. Greenway

7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 16

Hermantown has owned Class 1A, Section 7 the last decade, winning eight consecutive titles.

Greenway, a program that nearly dissolved three years ago, has seen a resurgence with one of its most talented groups in recent memory, and the No. 3-ranked Raiders hope this is the season they give the No. 1 Hawks a run for their money.

Tuesday night’s meeting is a rematch of last year’s section title game won by Hermantown 5-1. That score is an accurate representation of the one-sided nature of this matchup recently. Greenway is 0-10 against Hermantown since 2005 and was dropped from the Hawks' schedule for seven years. Since then, the teams have met once in the regular season and in the playoffs the past two years.

Greenway's upperclassmen were part of a tight 2-1 loss to the Hawks two years ago and know the effort it takes to hang with the two-time defending Class 1A champions.

Raiders junior Donte Lawson (29-17-46) leads the state with 29 goals and is second with 46 points. He is just one of a handful of talented juniors and sophomores supporting an eight-man senior class bringing veteran expertise to Greenway (12-4, 4-0).

Hermantown's six-game winning streak was snapped in a 5-3 loss to No. 2-2A Minnetonka last Saturday.  Junior Brady Baker scored two goals against the Skippers and serves as an emerging offensive weapon for Hermantown (7-4-2, 1-0-1).

Interesting fact: The Hawks are 57-0-1 against Class 1A competition during the regular season since their last loss in 2013.
