Angel Hillstrom came oh so close to a shut out in the Hawks 4-1 victory over Shakopee. Cooper played both a good offensive and defensive game, but they were really able to get the puck to the net, creating a lot of quality chances. Sam Morgen was first on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal in the first. Tom Monteiro followed up with a second goal in the second period on a play that saw him carry the puck into the zone, beat the defenseman & go top shelf on the goalie with a well placed back hand shot - pretty goal. Alex Johnson tallied his first high school goal on a gritty play in the crease & Tom Monteiro rounded off Cooper's scoring with an empty netter with a couple of seconds left in the third. The Hawks also played a tough physical game. Dustin Schultz injured his shoulder on a rough hit on the boards that knocked him out of the game in the second period, but showed his mettle by coming back in the third & palying well through the pain. This was surely the effort the coaching staff was looking for. The Hawks will try to keep their momentum rolling this Saturday in their game vs Somerset at New Hope Ice Arena.
