Boarding and checking-from-behind penalties will be automatic 5-minute majors

Starting on Wednesday, Jan. 25, the infraction for boarding and checking from behind in Minnesota Hockey sanctioned games will be a minimum 5-minute major penalty, according to a news release.

The Minnesota Hockey board of directors voted unanimously at its winter board meetings to strengthen the severity of the penalty on the two infractions, which perviously were 2-minute minors.

The changes in the severity of the penalties are similar to those put in place by the Minnesota State High School League last week.
