Gersich, Munson, Poganski, Walker, Dougherty make national team

Shane Gersich, who will be a sophomore at Holy Family Catholic, led the USA Hockey Select 16 player development camp in Rochester, N.Y., in scoring with five goals and seven assists in six games and was one of five Minnesotans selected to play for the U.S. Under-17 select team in the Five Nations Tournament.

Joining Gersich, a forward, on the national team are forwards Cullen Munson of Edina and Austin Poganksi of St. Cloud Cathedral and defensemen Jack Dougherty of St. Thomas Academy and Jack Walker of Edina.

Munson, Dougherty and Nickolas Wolff of Eagan all were selected to play in the camp-ending all-star game.

Forward Keegan Iverson, who played at Breck last season, and defenseman Jack Glover, who played for state Class 2A champion Benilde-St. Margaret’s, also made the all-star game rosters.

Jake Wahlin of White Bear Lake played on the camp championship-winning Red team. He led the team with six goals and was second in points with nine in six games.

Walker and fellow defenseman Ryan Collins, who played for state Class 2A champion Benilde-St. Margaret’s last season, also were on the Red team. Walker had a goal and two assists and Collins two assists in six games.

The Kelly team -- featuring Gersich, Poganski, forward Tyler Nanne of Edina and defenseman Zach Weier of St. Thomas Academy -- finished as the camp runner-up, losing 3-2 to Red in the title game.

Poganski had four goals and two assists, Nanne had two goals and four assists and Weier one assist in six games.
