In tourmament shootout setting, Trojans capture 3-2 win and face Edina Saturday

Trojans prevail in shootout 2-1

Wayzata's Seth Barnes dented the twine with four minutes remaining in the third period to force an official 2-2 overtime tie with the Maple Grove Crimson. Maple Grove's Tommy Malone had two goals sandwiched by a Hunter Kamm powerplay goal. Banres also assited on the Kamm goal for the two point night.

The Crimson (0-0-1) held the 2-1 lead through the second period and late into the third period as Barnes finally solved Maple Grove goalie Brandon Frakes who made 32 saves in the game. Alex Clayton split time in goal for Wayzata with Ty Simcoe as it was Clayton making 19 saves while being perfect in his tour of the crease.

The game goes officially in the books as tie. Even though it is a tournament setting, High School rules do not allow for multiple overtimes beyond the official 8 minute mark, and anything played after that to determine the winner is not viewed as an official result. The Trojans won in the shootout as both teams scored on their first attempt and missed on their second attempt. Wayzata iced the game with their third attempt. They will conclude the tournament format play Saturday against the Edina Hornets.
