#1 Hill Murray was extended to overtime by the Mahtomedi Zephyrs Saturday night.

The #1 ranked and defending State Champion Hill Murray Pioneers were taken to overtime with a talented Mahtomedi Zephyr team in Classic Suburban Conference action. Jeff Westerhaus scored his second goal of the game with 3:13 left in overtime to lift his Pioneer team to another hard fought conference victory.

Just one week ago, the Pioneers were given a test by the South St. Paul Packers and won by the same 3-2 score. Ben Marshall scored the game's opening goal on a short handed effort to give the Zephyrs a 1-0 lead at 7:09 of the first period.

Late in the first, Westerhuas picked up his first goal of the game to send it to the first intermission tied at one. The Pioneers took the 2-1 lead late in the second period as Ben Bahe scored his 1st goal of the season from Dan Cecka with 3:05 showing on the clock.

Special teams proved to be fruitful for the Zephyrs who tied the game at 2 as Tanner Jordan scored from Brandon Zurn and Marshall.   Hill Murray goalie Tim Shaugnesssy made 20 saves delivering what his Pioneers needed in picking up the big win. His counterpart, Brad Wohlers turned aside 27 Hill Murray shots as his team was one bounce away from the big conference win.

Mahtomedi (5-2, 2-2) will face with Orono next Monday, while Hill Murray (6-0, 4-0) faces off with White Bear Lake this Tuesday. The Zephyrs have lost two straight in the Classic Suburban and are looking to right the ship after starting 5-0 against the Spartans.
