Malmquist, Nanne help Hornets slip past Section 2AA rival Burnsville

Dylan Malmquist had a goal and added an assist on Tyler Nanne’s game winner as No. 3-ranked Edina topped No. 8 Burnsville 3-2 on Thursday, Jan. 3 at Braemar Arena in Edina.

Edina (11-2-0) struck first as Bo Brauer ringed the puck around Burnsville's net, where Tim Spicola sent the puck to Cullen Munson for a one-timer.

Malmquist followed Munson's goal with one of his own, then set up Nanne’s winner with a cross-ice pass that Nanne converted by firing into the upper left corner of the net.

Burnsville goals in the second by Cole Brochardt and Ian Taylor sandwiched Nanne’s goal.

Burnsville (6-5-1) pulled goaltender Nic Anderson in the final minute in favor of an extra attacker, and Edina goaltender Andrew Rohkohl faced a barrage of shots in the final seconds.

“I don't think we played exceptionally well, we played inconsistent," Edina coach Curt Giles said. "It was a good hockey team we played against. They're always well coached, so we knew it would be a battle tonight."

Both teams played solid defense breaking up multiple rushes, blocking shots, and clearing the puck from in front of the net.

Rohkohl finished with 27 saves, and Anderson had 24.
