ST. CLOUD -- For the third time this season, Alexandria gave unbeaten Little Falls all it could handle. But for the third time this season, the Flyers (28-0-0) managed to earn a one-goal victory over the Cardinals.
Wesley Waytashek scored the game-winner at 1:37 of overtime to lead Little Falls to the Section 6A title Thursday night at the MAC and its fifth straight state bid. The Flyers twice overcame a one-goal deficit in the game, including down 2-1 in the third period to their Central Lakes Conference rivals.
Ben Hanowski, the state's all-time leading scorer, got the Flyers even earlier in the third period, setting the stage for Waytashek's heroics. Waytashek had two goals in the game, while Hanowski had a goal and an assist.
Thomas Williams and Tyler Hocum scored goals for Alexandria, which got a big game from senior goalie Matt Hemingway. He stopped 37 shots as the Flyers outshot Alexandria, 40-25. Michael Sperl made 23 saves for Little Falls.
