The Moorhead Spuds have been the class of Section 8AA for nearly two decades. On Saturday night they brought their clout to the Buffalo Civic Center and left with a 5-1 victory.

The scoreboard only told part of the story for the game. The teams were nearly even throughout the first two periods, with one stark difference. Moorhead scored on their chances while Buffalo was stiffled by junior goalie Jacob Dittmer.

Buffalo's leading scorer Gunnar Goodmanson and his teammates were stopped on all their grade-A scoring chances, including odd-man rushes and breakaways. By contrast, Moorhead's Aaron Herdt capitalized on his chances and finished with two goals and a helper.

Reed Morehouse scored the only Bison goal on a nice end-to-end rush. Morehouse utilized the defender for a screen a fooled Dittmer with a quick backhand shot.

Coach Aaron Johnson remained positive after the game. "When you get beat like that [5-1 margin] it looks like a lopsided game. But we feel we played in a tight game. We just need to make a few more plays," explained Johnson, "the gap between the two teams is definitely not four goals and it will be even closer by section time."

After the game, the high school program hosted Skate with the Bison Night. The on-ice event was attended by fans of all ages and enjoyed by all. Photos of the event can be found on Twitter @BisonBoysHockey.

Next up for the Bison is conference rival St. Michael-Albertville Thursday night. Game times are 5:00 and 7:00.
