Weier is one of six seniors on the Cadets roster

Weier is one of six seniors on the Cadets roster this season. Here is a closer look at the St. Thomas Academy captain:

The best movie you’ve seen in the last year? “Captain Phillips.”

Three words or phrases your friends or teammates might use to describe you: Weird; goofy; energetic.

How did you get started playing hockey? I started skating when I was 3 years old, and then I just naturally wanted to play hockey.

At my first practice, I felt ... so nervous that I could barely catch a pass.

What did you work on most before the season? Strength and speed.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? Winning the Class 1A state tournament last year. [The Cadets defeated Hermantown 5-4 in the finals.]

What is your goal for the remainder of the hockey season? Make it back to the Xcel Energy Center to play in the state tournament. [The Cadets are now in Class 2A.]

Who is your school’s biggest rival, and why? Cretin-Derham Hall. Both of our schools used to be located in St. Paul and the rivalry has continued even though St. Thomas Academy moved to Mendota Heights.

How do you balance school and sports during the year?

I have great teachers who help keep me focused on school and great coaches who make sure I take care of my work in the classroom as diligently as I do on the ice.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? Don’t dwell on a mistake. Learn from it and forget it happened.
