International Falls native and former NHLer says state HS players don't need to leave early

Neil Sheehy, a top player agent and former NHLer from International Falls, addresses the question of whether Minnesota high school players neeed to leave early to better their chances of playing pro hockey in this Let's Play Hockey article.

Sheehy addressed the same topic when he spoke to the state's high school hockey coaches on Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center during the Minnesota Hockey Coaches Association clinic. Video of that presentation is at the top of the page.

Sheehy, who played his college hockey at Harvard and in the NHL for the Calgary Flames, among other NHL teams, spoke about the culture of Minnesota hockey and how the state's high school system is unique in comparison to what is offered in the eastern U.S., western Canada and other hockey hotbeds.

"What my message is, 'You don't have to go anywhere,' " Sheehy said. "Don't be in a hurry to go somewhere else, because you might be disappointed."
