Royal boys lose to Chisago, beat Cambridge, and hold Conference lead

The Rogers Royals bounced back from their first conference loss with a 7-1 conquest of Cambridge-Isanti on Saturday in Cambridge.

Jason Roberge knocked in three goals, Nate Weber two, and Branden Cecil and Trent Fredrickson one each for the Royals (16-6-1).

Cecil, Alexander Lorman, and Jacob Walker each assisted on two goals. Brock Maxwell made 17 saves.

The Royals, who lost to Chisago Lakes 4-0 Thursday, are 9-1 in the Mississippi 8, leading by one game with two left, at Monticello-Annandale-Maple Lake on Tuesday and Princeton at home Saturday.

Buffalo is 9-2 in conference with one game left, against Princeton, and Chisago Lakes is 7-3.

Chisago Lakes (16-8) jolted the Royals in Lindstrom on Thursday as Wildcat goalie Jake Dubose stopped 35 shots. Nic Bartz and Blake Lizotte gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead heading into the third period, when Brandon Gillespie scored two short-handed goals to wrap up the upset win. Maxwell made 26 saves for Rogers.

Rogers edged Chisago Lakes 3-2 at home in their previous meeting.
