Scouting the Eagles: Senior defenseman Luc Snuggerud provided an emotional jolt in the section finals, returning to the ice despite a broken bone in his hand. But the Eagles were already playing for something larger than themselves. Senior Michael Parrish lost his father, John “Ted” Parrish, to a brain tumor on Feb. 19. Michael blocked a shot on the penalty kill that led to Jack Keeley’s game-winning goal in overtime of the section playoffs. The entire team attended the funeral two days later. For reasons beyond hockey, coach Lee Smith wanted to reach state and “spend the last week with these guys.”

Scouting the Cougars: The graduation of goaltender Patrick Munson threatened to leave a void for the defending Section 5 champions. But Munson is still helping former teammates. “I talk to Packy about every week, and he gives me advice all the time,” goaltender Blake Miller said. And what did Munson say before the section final against favored Blaine? “Good luck and whatever happens, I’m proud of you,” Miller said. Teammate Collin Hughes felt likewise after Miller stopped 38 of 39 shots. “He’s the best goalie in the state right now,” Hughes said. “He’s played unreal for us.”

Worth knowing: While playing center- midfielder for Centennial’s soccer team, Miller scored both goals in a 2-1 playoff upset of heavily favored Blaine.
