Scouting the Panthers: Coach Trent Eigner believes this Panthers team will “be a factor” and acknowledged, “That hasn’t always been the case.” Since Lakeville split into two schools, North has lost all three of its state tournament quarterfinal games by five or more goals. This year figures to be much different. The Panthers are solid through the lineup and eager for a longer tourney run. Tristen Hazlett tallied nine playoff points (three goals, six assists), and freshman goalie Jake Oettinger won the semifinals and championship games. In the section playoffs, North outscored three opponents by a combined 24-2.

Scouting the Rams: Mr. Hockey finalist Zach Yon plays left wing on one of the state’s most prolific lines. Yon, center Alex Strand and right wing Alex Halstensgard have combined for 87 goals and 112 assists for 199 points this season. Strand is currently tied for 35th in state history with 116 career assists. His next point will be his 200th, making him the 68th player in state history to reach that mark. Another staggering statistic: Roseau makes its 34th state tournament appearance, the most all time. “We expect to see a hard-working, well-coached group,” Eigner said.

Worth knowing: Lakeville North brothers and linemates Jack, Nick and Ryan Poehling all committed to St. Cloud State.
