Minnesota teams romp in Bauer NIT quarterfinals

Red and White squads win by combined score of 12-1

Minnesota White beat Culver Academy 7-1 behind three goals from Hopkins' Archie Skalbeck and Minnesota Red got two goals apiece from Brock Nelson (Warroad) and Zach Schroeder (St. Thomas Academy) in a 5-0 romp over Team Wisconsin on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Bauer National Invitational Tournament at New Hope Arena.

The other quarterfinal games also were blowouts, as defending champion Shattuck-St. Mary's dumped the Dallas Jr. Stars 8-1 and the Michigan Development Hockey League overpowered Manitoba Prep 7-3.

The semifinals are scheduled for 1 and 3:30 p.m. Saturday, also at New Hope Arena. Sunday's championship is at 1:30 p.m.

In Minnesota White's victory, Alex Fons (Hopkins) stopped 27 of 28 shots and Max Gardiner (Minnetonka) had a goal and three assists.

Dan Harper (Blaine) stopped all 13 shots he faced for Minnesota Red, which also got a goal and an assist from Christian Isackson (St. Thomas Academy).
