Hockey has taken Franklin many places in his 20 years. The 2012 Forest Lake High School graduate played two seasons with the USHL’s Sioux Falls Stampede and is an incoming freshman at Minnesota State Mankato. A move to Canada could be forthcoming; the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets drafted the 5-11, 190-pound forward 129th overall a few weeks ago.

How was development camp? It was cool to be up there playing with players at a higher level and just seeing where you’re at. … You meet a lot of new people and just get to know what their organization does.

Ever been so far north? I’ve been to Canada actually a couple of times. But I’ve never been to a bigger city like Winnipeg, and it was kind of cool just to get to know the city a little bit and see what it was about.

Favorite part of hockey? Just thinking of all the places I’ve gotten to go because of hockey: New York, up in Nova Scotia, Canada, all over really. It’s really cool just to see what hockey can do for you and all the connections you can have with it.

Eager for your freshman season? Growing up, you always dream about getting a college scholarship. And I got that, and now I’m finally getting to play for it. I’ve already met all the guys and the team and the coaching staff, and I’m just excited to get going.

Pregame rituals? I just listen to whatever’s on the stereo in the locker room usually. I just go with the flow, not a very ritualistic person.

What’s your Netflix obsession? Just lately I’ve been watching ‘‘Orange is the New Black.’’ I think it’s a really funny show. I got into it, and I just couldn’t stop watching.
