Jack Becker just finished a season on the championship team of the Upper Midwest High School Elite League. Last year he was drafted as an affiliate player for the Sioux Falls Stampede in the top junior hockey league. He has an exceptional amount of experience going into his junior year.

Q So what have you done with the Stampede so far?

A I haven’t played in a game with them. They own my rights and I am a prospect with them. I went to the tryouts and last year I went out and practiced with them for like a week this year. It was a good experience.

Q How was it different from what you were used to?

A The play was high-paced. The guys are bigger and more physical. That’s definitely different than high school.

Q What about compared to Elite?

A Everyone in the Elite League is so good and so fast. Everyone’s got a lot of skill. We were fortunate to win the league championship, so that was fun.

Q What have you learned from these teams to take with you into high school season?

A I’m going to try and keep a fast-paced play. I want to just keep up what I’m doing and try to make my teammates better — of course, they always make me better, too.

Q What’s the best thing about the season?

A Just playing with my teammates that I learned hockey with. I’ve been playing with these guys since I was 5. And to finally be able to play in front of the community that really supports you in something really special.

Q Is your high school team role different?

A I have to lead on all of my teams, but in high school I’m more of a seasoned veteran. It’s my third year playing high school, so guys look up to me more.

Q What do you do when you’re not playing hockey?

A I like to golf a lot, and then I hunt and fish a lot. I’m an outdoorsman.
