This week’s selection of top games in Minnesota boys’ high school hockey features a rematch of last year’s Class 2A state championship game, as well as an early meeting between the top two ranked teams in the most recent coaches poll. Also included is a game with a handful of the top candidates for this year’s Mr. Hockey award and many future Division I college stars.

Of course, we’re talking about the same game.

All those factors come into play when No. 1-2A Edina (3-0-1) visits No. 2-2A Lakeville North (1-0-0) this Thursday night in our top Game of the Week.

The Hornets beat the Panthers 8-2 in the state final to win their second consecutive title. Both teams return many key members, and it is no surprise that they’ve been tabbed as the top two teams in the polls. And many outlets have noted the Mr. Hockey candidacies of players such as Edina’s Dylan Malmquist and Lakeville North’s Jack and Nick Poehling, Jack McNeely and Jack Sadek — all of whom are verbally committed to Division I programs.
