Bob Schweim is looking to bring continuity to the Prior Lake boys’ basketball program.

Schweim’s regime got underway Tuesday when the Lakers dropped a 78-61 decision to Waconia.

“My plan is to be here a long while,” said Schweim, the Lakers’ third coach in four years. “I’m not tossing away this year or the next, and making some five-year plan. I think we have the athletes to make some noise immediately.”

The Lakers have played .500 ball in the past five years. Their best season was 2012-13 when they went 19-8.

“They brought us in to change the entire culture,” Schweim said. “The staff needs to prove themselves, but the system from the top on down is an entire culture shift. We are definitely bringing in an entirely new system full of new terminology, skills to learn and, of course, offenses and defenses to absorb.”

Schweim previously coached at Burnsville, leading the Blaze to the Class 4A state tournament in 2008. He also was a longtime assistant coach under Doug Boe at the school.

“I’d like to see full court pressure, and an incredibly fast-paced offense all the way down so the kids know what to expect and what to work on as they come up,” Schweim said.

Top performances

• Apple Valley junior guard Gary Trent Jr. scored 46 points, including the 1,000th of his career, in the Eagles’ 105-69 victory over Chanhassen in boys’ basketball. He broke the school’s single-game scoring mark of 45 points held by current Minnesota Timberwolf Tyus Jones.

• Northfield sophomore forward Madi Goldsworthy had a hat trick in a 6-2 victory over Rochester Mayo in girls’ hockey. She has four goals this season, one fewer than all of last season.
