Bemidji attack continues outshooting Rogers 55-17

ROGERS — There's no time the Bemidji High School boys hockey team enjoys more than the third period as the Lumberjacks scored four times in the final frame to beat Rogers 7-2 in an away contest Saturday.

The Lumberjacks have scored three or more goals in each of their last four games with the three most recent occasions coming on the road, to which Bemidji head coach Wade Chiodo credits to his side's depth.

"That wears on teams," Chiodo said. "Their depth, we have all three lines and we don't deviate from that."

Bemidji remains unbeaten (5-0-1) thanks to a pair of goals from Jack Johnson, and goals from Chase Hartje, Alex Pollock, Rocky Copiskey, Cole Hartje, and Brady Tatro. The Lumberjacks outshot the Royals 55-17.

Hartje put the Lumberjacks ahead in the first period before Johnson extended the lead to 2-0 in the middle frame.

Later in the period, Rogers scored to cut the Bemidji lead to 2-1. Rogers (3-2-0) received a five-minute major penalty to give the Lumberjacks an extended power play, which they were unable to take advantage of.

However, Bemidji scored again before intermission to make 3-1. Rogers then converted on the power play late in the frame to make it a one-goal game going into the third period.

Johnson began the four-goal final frame for the Lumberjacks and they never looked back. Copiskey, Cole Hartje and Tatro also scored in the third period to cap the game for Bemidji.

"I thought we grinded it out," Chiodo said. "Obviously, we've had a long week of travel and we were able to grind it out and found a way to get out of here with a victory."

Bemidji will finish its four-game road trip at East Grand Forks Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
