Red Knights win streak ends in 4-4 tie with Panthers.

Auggie Moore's ninth goal of the season tied the game for a fourth and final time.

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- Top-ranked Benilde-St. Margaret's saw its 10-game winning streak come to an end when defending Class AA state champion and eighth-ranked Lakeville North managed to earn a 4-4 tie with the Red Knights in the Sports Authority Holiday Classic.

From the start, it appeared as if the Panthers, who went 31-0-0 en route to last year's title, were determined not to let BSM duplicate their feat of a year ago.

Ryan Poehling got North on the scoreboard, four minutes, 56 seconds into the game and, despite a late penalty in the opening frame, appeared as if it would take the one-goal lead into the first intermission.

Red Knight co-captain Peter Heimbold had a different idea, however, when he picked up the puck behind his own net, raced the length of the ice and, crossing the Panther blueline, let loose with a blast that beat both goalie Buzz Eigner and the horn to tie the game at 1-1.

It took little time to go from 1-1 to 3-2 in the second period when Blake Brandt put North on top, 4:14 into the middle stanza.

Cade Gleekel responded for BSM just 35 seconds later when he banged home a loose puck while on his knees and with his back to the net but, 29 seconds later, Taylor Schneider restored the Panthers' lead.

BSM got the equalizer with 60 seconds remaining in the second period but Brandt's second goal of the game, 3:27 into the third period, gave North its fourth lead of the game.

Once again, the Red Knights responded when Auggie Moore converted a Bronson McLeod rebound with 6:14 to play in the period to tie the game for a final time.

For just the second time this season, BSM was outshot, 37-30, but Ryan Bischel turned aside 33 shots and also recorded his first career assist.

The Red Knights are back in action tomorrow when they face 11th-ranked Elk River in a 5:00 p.m. game at the SLP Rec Center.
