DULUTH — Nick Leitner’s hat trick helped the Bemidji High School boys hockey team rebound from its first loss of the season with a 6-0 shutout win against Duluth Marshall in the Duluth Hilltopper Holiday Classic on Wednesday

In addition to Leitner’s three goals, Brady Tatro, Alex Pollock and Erik Fitzgerald also got on the scoresheet during Wednesday’s Hilltopper Holiday Classic consolation round game.

A total of 10 Lumberjacks picked up points in the high-scoring contest.

Carson Olson had an impressive outing, stopping all 18 shots he faced to earn the shutout.

Bemidji was firing from the get-go as the Lumberjacks held a 15-5 advantage in shots through the first frame.

Leitner kicked off the scoring with a first period power play goal off a feed from Fitzgerald and Jack Johnson.

The second period began where the first left off as Leitner struck again to make it 2-0 Bemidji with Hunter Olson and Tyler McNamara earning assists.

The goal started a scoring cascade for the Lumberjacks. A minute later, Leitner scored on the power play from Lusby and Cole Hartje to clinch a hat trick.

Tatro made it 4-0 only 25 seconds later as Rocky Copiskey and Pollock picked up assists.

The Lumberjacks took advantage of another power play opportunity late in the second period as Pollock scored on a one-timer off of key assists from Tatro and Copiskey.

In the third period, Fitzgerald scored on the power play for his third goal of the season to cap off a 6-0 Bemidji win.

The power play unit was firing on all cylinders with four of Bemidji’s goals coming on the man-advantage.

The Lumberjacks will play Class 1A No. 6 Delano in the Hilltopper Holiday Classic consolation championship at 10:45 a.m. today at Mars Lakeview Arena in Duluth.

Delano (8-3) lost to Hermantown 5-2 in the tournament’s first round Tuesday before defeating Superior 6-1 Wednesday.
