10 Mr. Hockey finalists named

Two Frank Brimsek finalists also named

The Mr. Hockey Award, presented by the Minnesota Minute Men, is given to Minnesota's most outstanding senior high school boys’ hockey player and is selected by a panel of National Hockey League scouts, junior scouts/coaches and select media members from the state.

The 32nd Annual Mr. Hockey Awards Banquet will be held at noon on March 6 at the Grand Ballroom at RiverCentre (175 Kellogg Boulevard, St. Paul).

The public is welcome to attend. Registration is available at www.minnesotaminutemen.com.

Wyatt Aamodt

School: HermantownPosition: Defenseman

College Committed: Undecided

Aamodt anchors the blue line for No. 1-1A Hermantown, which has held opponents to just 39 goals en route to an 18-2-1 record. He is fourth on the team in points with 27 (5 goals, 22 assists).

 


Chase Ellingson

School: BreckPosition: Forward 

College Committed: Undecided

Guiding the No. 2-1A Mustangs to a 19-3 record thus far, Ellingson leads the team in goals (26) and points (55) and is tied for the most assists (29). He posts an average of 2.5 points per game.


Will Garin

School: Holy Family CatholicPosition: Forward

College Committed: Connecticut 

Garin leads the team with 21 goals, including two hat tricks, and 41 points this season. He also has 20 assists, helping guide the No. 2-2A Fire to a 16-3 record.


Cade Gleekel

School: Benilde-St. Margaret's | Position: Forward

College Committed: Undecided 

Sitting at sixth in the state with 36 assists, Gleekel has been the backbone of an unbeaten Benilde-St. Margaret's teamHe also leads the No. 1-2A Red Knights (21-0-1) with 20 goals and 56 points.


Michael Graham

School: Eden PrairiePosition: Forward

College Committed: Notre Dame

While his 14 goals ranks him third on the No. 4-2A Eagles in scoring, Graham has recorded eight multi-assist games. His 25 assists and 39 points are the second most on the team this season.

 


Tyler Jette

School: FarmingtonPosition: Defenseman

College Committed: Undecided

Jette contributes nicely from the blue line for Farmington, with the defenseman tallying 20 points this season (4 goals, 16 assists).


Mitchell Mattson

School: Grand RapidsPosition: Forward

College Committed: North Dakota

Leading No. 13-2A Grand Rapids with 16 goals, 22 assists and 38 points, Mattson has ushered the Thunderhawks to a 15-6-1 record.


Luke Notermann

School: BlainePosition: Forward

College Committed: Minnesota

Notermann is fifth in the state in assists (39) and tied with teammate and fellow Mr. Hockey finalist Riley Tufte for fifth in the state in points (60). The recent Gophers commit has also has 21 goals, including three hat tricks, and 10 multi-assist games this season for No. 6-2A Blaine. 


Casey Staum

School: Hill-MurrayPosition: Defenseman

College Committed: Nebraska-Omaha

A fixture on Hill-Murray's blue line, Staum has aided the No. 11-2A Pioneers to a 14-6-2 mark on the year.


Riley Tufte

School: BlainePosition: Forward

College Committed: Minnesota-Duluth

Bound for the Bulldogs next fall, Tufte has put on a show in his senior prep campaign, helping No. 6-2A Blaine to a 17-4-0 record. He is third in the state with 36 goals and tied with teammate and fellow Mr. Hockey finalist Luke Notermann for fifth in points (60). Tufte, who has 24 assists, has just two games this year in which he did not register multiple points.



Frank Brimsek Award semifinalists

The Frank Brimsek Award, also presented by the Minnesota Minute Men, is given to the Minnesota's top high school goaltender. The winner will be announced at the Mr. Hockey Awards Banquet on March 6. 

 

River Alander

School: Duluth DenfeldPosition: Goaltender

College Committed: Undecided

Alander has a 7-8-1 record with a 2.52 goals-allowed average and a .916 save percentage for the Hunters.


Nick Althaus

School: St. Cloud ApolloPosition: Goaltender

College Committed: Undecided

Althaus is tied for the most wins in the state with 21 and ranks fourth in goals-against average (1.42) and sixth in save percentage (.932). He has eight shutouts and started every game this season, leading No. 3-1A St. Cloud Apollo to a 21-2 mark.
