Jacks earn top seed, first round bye in Section 8AA

BEMIDJI — The Bemidji High School boys hockey team has earned the No. 1 seed in the Section 8AA tournament that begins next week. The Lumberjacks, currently 20-2-2, also received a first-round bye in the seven-team tournament.

 
 

Bemidji will face the winner of No. 4 St. Michael-Albertville and No. 5 Roseau at the Bemidji Community Arena on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m.

The Lumberjacks beat St. Michael-Albertville 5-2 at home on Jan. 30 and swept Roseau in their season series, beating the Rams 5-0 at home Dec. 22 and 5-3 on the road Jan. 28.

The other Section 8AA quarterfinal games feature No. 3 Brainerd against No. 6 Rogers and No. 2 Moorhead with No. 7 Buffalo.

Bemidji is a combined 7-1 against Section 8AA teams this season, with its only loss coming at Moorhead in overtime 3-2 on Jan. 12. The Lumberjacks did not play Buffalo in the regular season.

The section final is Wednesday, Feb. 24 at a neutral site.

The boys hockey state tournament is March 2-5 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Bemidji will conclude its regular season with a home game against Thief River Falls Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Roseau/St. Michael-Albertville winner at Bemidji, 7 p.m.

Rogers/Brainerd winner vs. Buffalo/Moorhead winner, 7 p.m. at high seed
