Third-period rally secures Section 6AA quarterfinal win for BSM.

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- Benilde-St. Margaret's kept the fans around until the end of the game once again but a four-goal third period put away Holy Angels and gave the Red Knights a 6-1 win in a Section 6AA quarterfinal game.

In its last five games, BSM has outscored its opponents 13-2 and has needed to rally in the final 17 minutes in several of those games.

Against the Stars, a goal by Holy Angels' Jack Knapp with 56 seconds to play in the second period sent the game into the final period with the hosts holding a 2-1 lead but Zack Risteau scored twice in the third frame, completing his hat trick with his 20th goal of the season.

The team's skated to scoreless tie in the first period but, with 52 seconds remaining in the opening stanza, Dylan Hewitt stole the puck on the forecheck and forced the Stars' Danny Weber to haul him to the ice, creating the game's first power play.

That power play carried over into the second period and, with one second remaining on Weber's penalty, Jerry Calengor knocked home his ninth goal of the season.

Risteau would then scored the first of his three goal with 1:30 to play in the period when Calengor won a faceoff in the right circle of the Stars' zone. Nick Austin took the puck at the top of the circle and passed it through the slot to Risteau, who was wide open for a tip-in goal to the left of goal.

Knapp's goal would have the lead but the Red Knights, who scored just twice on 31 shots on the game's first 34 minutes, then tallied four goal on their first 11 shots on the final period.

Risteau started the rally when he entered the Holy Angels' zone as a trailer after Connor Mayer had carried the puck the length of the ice and behind the Stars' goal. He passed the puck to Risteau in the right circle and, after quickly moving around a defender, he fired home a power-play goal which gave BSM a 3-1 lead, 1:52 into the final period.

Just over two minutes later, Jacob Holmers buried a Risteau and Risteau completed his hat trick with 9:39 to play in the game by knocking home an Austin rebound.

Before the crown could settle back into their seats, just 45 seconds later, Jack Qualen rounded out the scoring when he crashed the slot to bury a Jared Gherardi rebound.

With the win, the top-ranked and unbeaten Red Knights (25-0-1) advance to the Section 6AA semifinals, where they will meet Cretin-Derham Hall, a 4-2 winner over Hopkins.

The teams will faceoff Saturday, beginning at 3 p.m., at the Bloomington Ice Garden.

That game will be followed, at 7 p.m., by the other Section 6AA semifinal, featuring second-seeded Wayzata and third-seeded Edina.

The winners of the two semifinal games will meet Wednesday, at 6 p.m., at Mariucci Arena for the Section 6AA championship and the right to advance to the Class AA state tournament, March 3-5, at the Xcel Energy Center.
