As the first basketball games of the season get underway players aspire to make a postseason run at the Target Center. Using statistics from last season as a basis, the leaderboards listed below, project those returning players who could make a substantial impact for their teams this season.
One player to keep an eye on is Bryce Irsfeld of Browerville. Irsfeld ended the 2015-16 season leading the state with 27 points per game, as well as finishing with 159 assists (No. 8). Irsfeld looks to begin this season with similar success in hopes of making a return to the state tournament this year.
Hope Academy’s Johnny Erickson and Nate Elifson return this season looking to make a deeper run in the section playoffs with hopes of making the state tournament. Erickson ended last season with 23.5 points per game (No. 5), and recorded 182 assists, both numbers ranking top five in the state. In addition, Elifson finished with an impressive 190 rebounds (No. 19) on the season.
