Top players at the Holiday Hockey Classic gather for NHL-style contest

High school hockey fans who arrive early for semifinal Wednesday at the Holiday Hockey Classic in St. Louis Park will be treated to an NHL-style skills competition.  The event, which will begin at 9 a.m., features a trio of top players from each of the eight teams in the tournament.

Players will compete in events ranging from shooting accuracy, stickhandling, skating speed, a shootout against goaltenders Anders Jecha (Benilde-St. Margaret's) and Michael Bitzer (Moorhead).

The skills competition is free and open to the public.  For those not able to attend, MyFoxHockey will be there to broadcast the entire event.  Check out their site at www.MyFoxHockey.com for more information.

Players participating in the skills competition are:

Wayzata: Kage Tiller, D.J. Jones and Marc Richards
Benilde: Pat Steinhauser, Grant Besse, Christian Horn and Anders Jecha (G)
Elk River: Nash Bleyhi, Andrew Zerban, Ryan Jaremko
Eden Prairie: Kyle Rau, Dan Molenaar, David Rath
Bloomington Jefferson: John Roisum, Nick Nielsen, Eric Freschi
Moorhead: Bryant Christian, Brendan Johnson, Ben Doda and Michael Bitzer (G)
Maple Grove: Dylan Steman, Tyler Dunagan, Spencer Bell
Centennial: Trey Hughes, Jacob Flynn, Riley Colvard
