ORONO — A third-period rally by the Faribault High School boys hockey team ultimately fell short, as the Falcons lost 4-3 in overtime to Orono on Thursday.

FHS senior Brandon Teske notched a pair of power play goals in the third period to even the game at 3-3. At the 3:38 mark of overtime, however, Orono won a faceoff in the FHS zone and Dylan Limesand’s shot beat goalie Cody Morsching for the winner.

“I’m pretty proud of our power play and our ability to come back in the third period and finish the game the way they did,” coach Brad Ryan said. “The kids can walk out of that locker room with their heads high.”

Orono got on the board in the first period before Faribault’s Sean Lipinski tied the game at 1-1. Two Spartans goals in the second put the Falcons in a 3-1 hole after two periods.

Teske’s power play goals — both of which were unassisted — came at 3:55 and 8:10 in the third to send Thursday’s contest into overtime.

Morsching, a sophomore, made his first varsity start in net for Faribault. He stopped 40 of 44 shots he faced.

“He kept us in the game,” Ryan said.
