Eden Prairie slips past Hill-Murray; Eagan upends Apple Valley

EDEN PRAIRIE 2, HILL-MURRAY 1: No. 1 Eden Prairie and No. 3 Hill-Murray entered Thursday’s showdown at Aldrich Arena on the strength of holiday tournament titles.

Visiting Eden Prairie maintained its momentum with a 2-1 victory. Luc Gerdes’s goal at 7:14 of the third period held up as the game-winner. The Eagles’ Kyle Rau scored the game’s first goal at 11:37 of the second period.

Hill-Murray’s Jake Guentzel tied the game at 5:21 of the third period. The loss snapped a seven-game Pioneers’ unbeaten streak.

EAGAN 4, APPLE VALLEY 2: The Class 2A, No. 7 Wildcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead, highlighted by two second-period goals by junior forward Will Merchant as Eagan won in the South Suburban matchup. Apple Valley was ranked No. 8 in Class 2A.

BURNSVILLE 12, PRIOR LAKE 0: The Blaze scored six first-period goals en route to an easy victory over the Lakers in the South Suburban. Mike Dockry led the onslaught with three goals and three assists.

OSSEO 2, CENTENNIAL 1: Senior forwards Dan Mathewson and Casey Cardille each scored in the second period as the Orioles skated past the Cougars in the Northwest Suburban.
