Red Knights, Spuds, combined for five power-play goals.

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Three power-play goals allowed Benilde-St. Margaret's to go into the third periods tied, 3-3, but it was a Moorhead power-play tally that proved to be the game winner as the Spuds' junior knocked off the Red Knights, 5-3.

Moorhead got on the scoreboard with a Brycen Lunak power-play goal, nine minutes into the contest and, with 2:44 to go in the opening period, Grant Bathurst made it a 2-0 lead for the Spuds.

Three early penalties in the second period would hurt the hosts, however, as coincidental major and minor penalties gave BSM a 5-on-3 power play just 38 seconds into the middle frame.

Lukas Metcalfe capitalized just over a minute later and, 42 seconds after that goal, the Spuds took another minor penalty, putting their guests back on a 5-on-3 power play.

This time it took just 47 seconds for BSM to capitalize and Metcalfe once again came through, on the second James Norkosky's two assists, to tie the game at 2-2.

Tommy Horan scored at the 7:42 mark of the period to restore the lead for Moorhead but Nokosky was set up by Metcalfe on the power play as the Red Knights tied the score with 5:41 remaining before the second intermission.

A penalty with 35 seconds remaining in the second period would haunt the visitors as Horan scored with one second remaining in the power play to give the Spuds their third lead of the game.

Moorhead, after being outshot, 28-12, in the first two periods, put the clamps down on the Red Knights, allowing just four shots on goals while registering eight.

They would get one more goal before posting the win as Horan sealed the win by completing his hat trick just over four minutes after making it a 4-3 game.

Next up for the Red Knights is the second of three consecutive road games, Tuesday, when they face Minnetonka at the Pagel Activity Center. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Lukas Metcalfe scored twice and assisted on BSM's third goal.
