Outdoor hockey with a purpose takes place Jan. 20 at Lowell Park in Stillwater, the eve of Hockey Day Minnesota.
Three games, all open to the public, are planned: A police officers vs. firefighters game (4:30-5:30 p.m.), the Minnesota Whitecaps women's professional team vs. the Korean national team (6-7) and a Gophers/Badger alumni game (7:30-8:30).
Spectators are asked to bring a non-perishable food item or make a $5 donation. All proceeds benefit Valley Outreach, a Stillwater-based community assistance program.
Matt Doman, coach of the Stillwater boys' program, said former fellow Badgers who have said they are playing include Tom Sagissor, Paul Ranheim and Adam Burish. Former Gophers include Jordan Leopold, Johnny Pohl, Troy Riddle, Ryan Kraft, Matt Koalska and current high school coaches Joe Dziedzic (Minneapolis) and Pat O'Leary (Wayzata).
