Class 2A

Stillwater improved to 12-0-0 after beating Forest Lake 6-2 on Jan. 7. Noah Cates, Matthew Stanton and Austin Murr each scored two goals and combined for eight total points in the road win that ensured the Ponies remained atop the Class 2A coaches' poll.

Stillwater received 10 first-place votes this week and boast talent on both ends of the ice. Cates leads the team with 31 points (12 goals, 19 assists) while Seth Eisele is one of Minnesota's top goalies with 11 victories (tied for second most in the state) and has allowed just 13 goals on 182 shots (.929 save percentage).

Both will need to continue performing well this week to keep the Ponies ahead of the pack. Stillwater is in the middle of playing four consecutive road games and closes out this week with games at Woodbury and No. 16-2A White Bear Lake. The Ponies return home Jan. 21 to face No. 8-2A Eden Prairie.

Elk River (12-2-0) bounced back from its Dec. 30 loss to Stillwater with back-to-back 4-2 wins over No. 15-2A Blaine and Andover. Connor Bizal found the net twice in the win over the Bengals, helping the Elks stay at No. 2 in the rankings.

Edina (10-3-1) passed Grand Rapids (10-3-1) to take the No. 3 spot after beating Holy Angels 7-2 last Saturday. The Thunderhawks lost in overtime at Holy Family Catholic 4-3 on Jan. 6, and their 4-3 defeat to No. 1-1A Hermantown on Wednesday could mean the slide will continue.

Hill-Murray jumped from No. 9 to No. 5 after beating sixth-ranked St. Thomas Academy 2-1 and shutting out No. 7-1A Mahtomedi 4-0 last week. Brock Bremer leads the Pioneers with 17 points (9 goals, 8 assists) and has two game-winners, including against the Cadets.

Lakeville North and Eden Prairie remained ranked seventh and eighth, respectively, while Holy Family Catholic (9-3-1) moved from No. 10 to No. 9 following victories over Grand Rapids and Blaine.

Burnsville (6-6-1) cracked the top 20 after beating Bloomington Jefferson and Apple Valley last week by a combined score of 11-1. Roman Ahcan leads the Blaze in points with seven goals and 14 assists.

Class 1A

Hermantown knocked off No. 4-2A Grand Rapids to improve to 11-1-1 overall and maintain its hold on the No. 1 ranking, earning 10 first-place votes.

Minnesota State-Mankato recruit Ryan Sandelin leads the Hawks with 17 goals and 12 assists, while goalie Cade McEwen is tied for second in the state in wins (11), fifth in goals-against average (1.48) and fifth in save percentage (.948).

Delano (10-1-1) beat No. 15-1A Orono and New Prague last week by a combined score of 12-2. Ben Meyers, the state leader in assists (30) and points (52), recorded three assists and Kyle Ylitalo recorded a hat trick in the 9-0 win over New Prague.

Minnehaha Academy goalie Justin Evenson leads the state with 12 wins and a .948 save percentage. The senior has three shutouts and allowed 20 goals while facing 387 shots. Despite their 12-1-0 record, the Redhawks have yet to crack the state's top 10, coming in at No. 12 this week.

Breck (8-3-1) took the No. 3 spot from St. Paul Academy (10-1-0) after beating the Spartans 3-2 on Jan. 7. St. Paul Academy goalie Andy Beran saved 37 of the 40 shots he faced in the defeat.

Sartell-St. Stephen (9-2-3) jumped from No. 11 to No. 8 after beating ninth-ranked Alexandria 4-3 on Jan. 5. The Sabres, however, lost to Bemidji 7-0 just two days later.

Blake (9-4-0) fell from No. 10 to No. 14 after getting shut out by No. 7-1A Mahtomedi on Jan. 10.

Monticello, Rochester Lourdes and Mankato East each moved up one spot to No. 17, No. 18 and No. 19, respectively.

Totino-Grace (5-8-0) cracked the top 20 after beating Spring Lake Park 5-2 last Saturday.
