Red Knights split points with Storm to open MWC play.

VICTORIA, Minn. -- Benilde-St. Margaret's took a lead into the final minute of regulation play but had to settle for a 3-3 tie in their Metro West Conference opener at Chanhassen.

The Red Knights got off to a fast start as Dylan Hoen took a centering pass from Stefan Garcia and buried the puck in the back of the Storm net just 34 seconds into the contest.

The hosts would send the game into the first intermission tied at 1-1, however, when they scored on the power play with five minutes remaining in the opening frame.

Chanhassen would then grab a 2-1 lead when they scored 3:36 into the second period.

BSM got the goal back when Michael McNeil chipped the puck up the right side out of his own zone. Joe Collins then collected the puck and sent Nick Sims into the Chanhassen zone, where the Red Knight co-captain finished the rush by scoring his third goal of the season.

Joe Collins set up the tying goal and scored the go-ahead goal for the Red Knights.

Collins, whose assist marked his first varsity point, notched his first varsity goal just 73 seconds into the final period when he banged home a Jerome Newhouse rebound and the Red Knights would hold onto that lead for the next 15 minutes.

With goalie Zach Swisher headed off the ice for an extra attacker, Chanhassen's Colin Moser came off the right boards and, with 43.1 seconds on the clock, tied the game with his second goal of the game.

The momentum of that goal carried over into the overtime session, where the Storm registered nine shots on goal in eight minutes but Peyton Melin turned aside all of the hosts' chances, finishing the game with 26 saves.

Next up for the Red Knights is a non-conference match up with No. 11 Minnetonka, Saturday. Opening faceoff at the Pagel Activity Center is slated for 7 p.m.
