Several top showdowns take place across the state on Saturday as part of Hockey Day Minnesota, while many more are on the slate leading up to this weekend's crowning moment.

Stillwater faces Eden Prairie in the event's spotlight game, an outdoor contest Saturday afternoon at Lowell Park on the edge of the St. Croix River.

Later that day, tradition-rich programs take center stage as Edina hosts Hill-Murray and Minneapolis welcomes St. Paul Johnson.

On Tuesday night, St. Cloud Cathedral clashes with Sartell-St. Stephen in a crucial Class 1A, Section 6 meeting, while St. Paul Academy meets Minnehaha Academy in a critical Interdependent Metro Athletic Conference game.

Thursday night will be a big night in the Northwestern Suburban Conference as Blaine takes on rival Centennial and Elk River visits Maple Grove, with the winners earning the inside track in the league title race.

In Mankato, East takes on West at the Verizon Wireless Center, while in the metro, Edina travels to Eden Prairie in a battle for early control of the Lake Conference.

But we've chosen a matchup featuring two Class 2A programs on the upswing as our Top Game of the Week.

St. Michael-Albertville heads to Holy Family Catholic on Tuesday night with both programs eager to continue laying the building blocks of success. A win could the fuel either as each look to keep on red-hot trajectories toward an ultimate goal: earning their first state tournament berths.
