Class 2A
Hill-Murray (12-1-3) jumped from No. 4 to No. 1 in the Class 2A state coaches' poll, earning six first-place votes after back-to-back wins against top-five ranked opponents.
Jake Begley's 30-save effort gave the Pioneers a 2-1 victory over Edina on Hockey Day In Minnesota and sent the Hornets from second to fourth in the coach's poll. Three days later, the Pioneers topped former No. 3-2A Elk River 4-2, with seniors Kyler Yeo and Brock Bremer each contributing multi-point efforts.
Bremer leads Hill-Murray with 12 goals and 16 assists and Yeo has contributed six goals and 17 assists. The Pioneers haven't lost since facing Minnetonka on Dec. 31 and face four top-twenty ranked opponents in their final eight games.
Stillwater's second loss of the season caused it to drop from first to third in the coach's poll, but still earned one first place vote. The Ponies (15-2) lost 4-1 in an outdoor home game on Hockey Day in Minnesota to Eden Prairie. The Eagles (11-4-2) sprung from No. 6 to No. 2 and received four first-place votes as a result. Matthew Stanton scored the lone goal for Stillwater while Casey Mittelstadt scored two goals for the Eagles.
Despite winning its seventh consecutive game, Lakeville North (13-2-2) dropped from fifth to sixth to make room for the surging Eden Prairie Eagles in the Class 2A top-five. The Panthers have faced one top-twenty opponents, No. 16 Lakeville South, and outscored their opponents 34-11 during their streak.
The bottom half of the top ten remained unchanged with Holy Family Catholic, Centennial, Grand Rapids and St. Thomas Academy grappling for a top-five slot in the rankings.
After appearing in the top-twenty for its first time last week, Burnsville climbed to No. 18 after beating Shakopee and No. 16 Lakeville South. The Blaze (10-6-1) haven't lost since facing Edina on Jan. 3 and are four points out of first place in the South Suburban Conference standings.

Class 1A
Unlike the Class 2A top five, the Class 1A top five is nearly identical to last weeks. Hermantown (14-1-1) remains No. 1 with ten first-place votes in the coach's poll.
The Hawks have just two top-twenty opponents left of their schedule. They'll face No. 6 Mahtomedi on Feb. 4 and No. 11 Hibbing/Chisholm to finish their season on Feb. 16
Breck, Delano and St. Paul Academy hovered at second, third and fourth, respectively, while St. Cloud Cathedral (14-2-2) cracked the Class 1A top five for the first time this season following an 11-1 win over Virginia and a 6-4 win over No. 16 Blake.
Jake VanHalbeck (23 goals, 22 assists) and Michael Spethmann (19 goals, 25 assists) rank 12th and 15th in the state in points. The Crusaders are are 10-1 since Dec. 13.
Mahtomedi (9-7) fell from No. 5 o No. 7 in the coach's poll after losing to Class 2A-No. 3 Stillwater, 5-2. The Zephyrs are 3-3 in their last six games and face No. 2 Breck, No. 1 Hermantown, Class 2A-No. 10 St. Thomas Academy and No. 5 St. Cloud Cathedral in four of their eight remaining games.
No. 12 St. Paul Johnson (12-3-2) and No. 14 Minnehaha Academy switched spots in the top twenty after the Governors beat the Redhawks, 3-2. Senior Luke Heffernan scored the game-winning goal in overtime.
